In permission marketing, opt-out - in contrast to opt-in - refers to the automatic inclusion of recipients in a newsletter mailing list. Examples of this would be a purchase in an online shop or registering with an online community. In these cases, a recipient who does not want to receive any advertising would only have the option to unsubscribe from the mailing list of the provider after having been sent an email or SMS. This legally inadmissible procedure is not what is meant here.
In der WBS, opt-out refers to unsubscribing from a mailing list after having provided explicit consent to the subscription initially.
