In permission marketing, opt-out - in contrast to opt-in - refers to the automatic inclusion of recipients in a newsletter mailing list. Examples of this would be a purchase in an online shop or registering with an online community. In these cases, a recipient who does not want to receive any advertising would only have the option to unsubscribe from the mailing list of the provider after having been sent an email or SMS. This legally inadmissible procedure is not what is meant here.

In der WBS, opt-out refers to unsubscribing from a mailing list after having provided explicit consent to the subscription initially.

The general unsubscribe link

(EMS - Opt-out)

When you send an email circular to a group of recipients, you can offer each recipient the option to unsubscribe from all mailing lists. It is up to you to decide whether you would like to include this option in every email. To be prepared, you can create appropriate email templates - with and without unsubscribe link.

The general text for the 'Unsubscribe from all newsletters' link can be defined in the general settings for the forms of address/macros:

a) Start the Settings module and select the gray Forms of address/Macros tab in the general settings.

b) Here you will find the WBS default text for the 'Unsubscribe from all newsletters' link. You can change the text any way you like.

This is the text that will appear as a link in all documents if you use the 'Unsubscribe from all newsletters' macro in an email template without changing the settings.

For each newsletter, you can enter your own text for the 'Unsubscribe from all newsletters' link as per b). This applies for all types of newsletters (Newsletter, FollowUp, Campaign, Event):

c) Start the EMS, select the newsletter type (in this case: Newsletter) and create a new newsletter or edit an existing newsletter.

d) If applicable, enter you own text for the 'Unsubscribe from all newsletters' link and save your newsletter.

You can also change the text in an individual email template, should this be required:

e) Start the Templates module and create a new template or edit an existing template.

f) Position the cursor in the template text (normally at the end) and click the macro placeholder in the command bar of the editor. Now select the macro Link_OptOut_ALL from the system macros.

g) Enter your own text for the general unsubscribe link for this template into the Link text field.

The individual link text for this template will immediately appear:

h) Here you can see how the unsubscribe link will appear to the email recipient.

The individual unsubscribe link

(EMS - Opt-out)

When you send an email circular to a group of recipients, you can offer each recipient the option to unsubscribe from the mailing list for this particular newsletter. If the recipient unsubscribes from this newsletter, he will still receive any other newsletters he has subscribed to.

The individual text for the 'Unsubscibe from this newsletter' link can be defined in the general settings for the forms of address/macros:

a) Start the Settings module and select the gray Forms of address/Macros tab in the general settings.

b) Here you will find the WBS default text for the 'Unsubscribe from this newsletter' link. You can change the text any way you like.

This is the text that will appear as a link in all documents if you use the 'Unsubscribe from this newsletter' macro in an email template without changing the settings.
