What ist bouncing?

A soft bounce is an email that has reached the mail server of the recipient (i.e. the email address exists there), but is bounced back undelivered before it gets to the intended recipient. A soft bounce occurs, for example, when the inbox of the recipient if full, when the server is offline or when the email is over the size limit.

An automated reply to your email can also soft bounce.

After three soft bounces without detectable recipient activity, those emails are automatically converted into a hard bounce and removed from your recipient list.

A hard bounce is an email whose delivery is rejected due to a permanent error. Reasons for this may include invalid email addresses (unknown domain name, spelling mistakes etc.). It is also possible that the mail server of the recipient has blocked the mail server of the sender. Sometimes different servers interpret bounces differently, which could lead to one server logging a soft bounce and another logging a hard bounce.

b) and c) limit the number of bounces. In this way you can ensure that your emails are not bounced repeatedly.
